I thought it was the hottest shit before I played Witcher 3, and even now there's parts about DAI I like more in places. The War Table is shit and can be cheesed or modded out (I recommend modding it out because it's dumb pay to win-esque garbage where no money is used but it's got real world timers which are a complete fucking buzz kill).Īll in all if you want anywhere close to good writing It's a good buy, especially for 20 bucks, and was the last great game from Bioware imo. The combat is serviceable, with mage being the easiest "Fire and forget" class imo that allows you to just enjoy the spectacle. The different dialogue trees and responses to your choices not only in the immediate happenings but right from character creation and stuff is really great. If you're a mage, which are feared in the world, you will have specific dialogue options available to you that others won't, same for playing as a Qunari. One of my favorite relationships in gaming happens if you don't romance two of the other characters in the game and it develops naturally across banter and battle commentary as the game progresses.ĭAI also has something Bioware stopped doing by having race and class fall into play when you have conversations with characters. There are TONS of small scripted changes and character moments that depend on small decisions you make and who you take with you in the party.

There is a lot to the world that's "fluff" that you don't have to interact with but the programming back in DAI isn't as jank as Andromeda and Anthem is and shows they were still heavily focused on story beats. People would argue DA2 is the big change but DA:I Still has some excellent and magnificent character writing like Dorian and Iron Bull that are still some of my favorites to this day.

It's the start of the divide of old bioware and new bioware in my opinion.
